While I was mixing it up in the bathroom adding beadboard (read about that project here) I also tackled the long awaited task of adding some color to the shower curtain. Here's a sneak peak:
Last fall my sister picked up these adorable black and white window curtains for me from Ikea. I was looking for curtains for my bedroom but I thought this quirky pattern would be better in the bathroom. I had played with hanging both curtains on one rod up high like this (photo below). I imagined the curtain would be a statement piece. Then I realized the light is outside the shower so it would be pretty dark in there with the curtains all the way up to the ceiling.
So I ended up using both but hemming them shorter. I still had plans to make them extra-ordinary. After my adventures in using felt and applique this winter, I thought mimicking the birds already on the curtain in colorful felt would be fun.
I just held this paper up to the curtains and traced them to get the right shapes. Then cut out the bodies and wings in different colors.
I sewed the wings on using contrasting color thread before I attached them to the curtain.
This part was a little harder - I think it would have been easier if I had been patient enough to take the shower curtain down first, but alas, I just pinned up the birds and sewed them on with the curtain still hanging.
Can you see them all in the picture below? There are four...
They are small but I definitely think they add a little something. I may do more in the future but for now I love how they pick up the colors in the "Gone to Carolina" painting my friend Sarah made me before I moved to Indiana.

This is such a wonderful idea! I too have these curtains as shower curtains (minus the felt birds...so cute!). Thanks for the idea :)
