Vintage Ornament Magnets

A few weekends ago, I went up to my sister's house for a crafting weekend and I made these adorable ornament magnets. They were ridiculously easy to make and very fun.

I found this idea on Pinterest and had just pinned it without looking at the source. When I went back to get the original source for this post I discovered it actually came from my favorite blog to read, Young House Love. So exciting. No wonder I liked the idea. You can see their version here.
 
All you need to make them are a few ornaments, (they do not have to be vintage of course!) a hot glue gun, and magnets. I found magnets like these round ones I used at Joann's for less than $2.  I opted to use small ornaments so they wouldn't stick out from the fridge too much, but I think any size would be cute.

Simply put some hot glue on the middle of the back of the ornament, stick on the magnet, and viola! Ornament magnet. Easiest craft ever. :-)

One word of warning before I leave you... be careful when opening your fridge door when these babies are on there. Ours opens up near a wall and let me just say... I once had 3 ornament magnets... now I have 2.

Vintage Reindeer Jars

 
My sister made a few of these vintage reindeer jars for her booth and I think they are so cute! While I was at her house last weekend she made two more, one for me and one for her. I could not believe how easy they were to make. Check it out.

She used easy to find jars - sold at Ikea or Walmart - and slightly harder to find vintage reindeer figurines which you could find if you hunt a little at Goodwill or any other thrift store.

First she hot glued the reindeer to a sturdy piece of paper so he wouldn't fall over once he was in there. Then she glued that paper and the bottom of the tree to the bottom of the jar.

Sprinkle generously with glittery snow.

Last step, glue some hanging snowflakes to the bottom of the lid so they hang down and create a whimsical winter scene. Too cute!

Vintage Ornament Wreath

This project I attribute completely to my sister, but I was there when she made it, and I had a camera, so I will blog about it. I like this project because it involves an idea we saw on Pinterest, originally from here, that we altered and made even easier. And it is absolutely adorable.

My sister has been picking up vintage ornaments at garage & rummage sales and thrift stores for quite awhile and she had amassed quite a collection. More than enough to make an awesome ornament wreath and have plenty left over!

The inspiration from this project comes from here. When we read up on how to make these wreaths it said to simply take a wire hanger, bend it out of shape into a circle, and string all the ornaments on the hanger (after hot gluing their tops on). We painstakingly glued on all the tops and Kate began stringing them on. It was taking a LOT of ornaments. Not to mention we could see the wire hanger through them.

At about this point Kate decided it was time for plan B. She whipped out this foam wreath from her closet, wrapped it in ribbon and started just hot gluing the ornaments onto it.

This actually worked a million times better. It is sturdier, lighter, used less ornaments, and overall feels less breakable. To fill in the small gaps left by putting round ornaments together, she used little vintage people ornaments and mini-ornaments (like you can find for mini trees at Hobby Lobby). I think it turned out great and will look amazing in her blue house this Christmas.
