Cross Stitch Family
A couple months ago Martha featured a cross-stitch family craft project and it was adorable (check it out online here). It was one of those projects that I tear out and file away with intentions of attempting it someday. Well when I got to my sisters last weekend she had started one! She was half done (just the kids) and it was the cutest darn thing I'd ever seen. I decided there was no time like the present and had her show me how to get started. We used grid paper to draw out our caricatures first.
Then we got started. (Check out that Martha site above for directions) It took me the whole super bowl plus another couple episodes of The Office and 30 Rock to finish. It is time consuming but worth every minute. I love the way mine turned out. They are just so... us!

Stencil Monogram Bag
My new monogram bag is the light of my life! It makes me smile every time I see it, and it was so easy to make! Not to mention inexpensive.
To start I used 4 inch letter stencils to make a pattern. I just stenciled the letters on a scrap piece of paper to make sure I got the spacing right.
I laid the pattern out on the bag to center my monogram.
I used folk art paint to stencil on the letters (for a stenciling tutorial click here) - and used a fine tipped brush to connect the letters (like the top of the A which was separated on the stencil).
Last step: Pick a coordinating ribbon and sew it on. I just sewed a straight line down the top and the bottom edge of the ribbon.
The inspiration for this project was the "Give" bags my sister made for Christmas. Check out my previous post about them here to find out what they mean, and see the pictures below.

Blue Valentine
I spent the past weekend at my sisters house, working on projects (posts to come later) - and enjoyed her valentines deco this year. Her house is many shades of blue, so her Vday deco should be nothing less. I hardly even miss the pink and sparkle.
We did some stenciling while I was there and she whipped up this blue love sign... complete with a heart lock and key.
